Blogging Break.. I'm Back with a New Plan!

Hey guys-- If I still have friends on here :)

I have been terribly busy with work-- and workouts-- and have not posted on here since my marathon report. I promise you though this does not mean I have abandoned my love of running!

I did not take much time off after the marathon. Although it was still tender a few weeks post marathon, my ITband is doing much better. One thing I have not done since the race? Run outside! And it's killing me. The weather here has been snowy and cold and after running 26.2 miles in miserable conditions, in Orlando of all places, I am DONE with the cold.

My new best friend? The treadmill. I still dislike it compared to running outside on a nice Spring, Summer, or Fall day but I am learning to live with it. I am also doing some stellar speed work and enjoy the instant data the treadmill provides.

I have decreased my mileage per week quite a bit, averaging about 20 to 25 miles per week.

I am essentially running a 5K every day, 5 days a week. 1 day is a long run of 7 to 10 miles. I am also adding SERIOUS weight training to the schedule which has been going great. I am looking/feeling better than I ever have.

OK- the next race? Well, plenty of 5ks planned over the next couple of months but I need another big goal.. I am planning to run the Miami half marathon in the beginning of March... But ready for a full marathon after sometime in April. Any ideas?????

    Welcome back!! I was starting to worry about you...glad to see everything is A okay!! Good job on keeping up with your training, that is awesome!! I am really excited to hear that you have a few more races planned for the near future!! I am like you and pretty much had it with this winter and snow thing:) Glad to have you back...keep smiling:)

  2. Nice to hear from you again, Patrick! And congrats on your marathon...I'm not as brave a runner as you are. Good for you thatyou can run on a treadmill...I wish I could say the same, but I need to run outside, even in "Buffalo weather." yes, I would rather run in temps of 18 degrees than consign myself to 60 minutes "trapped" on a treadmill. Good for you if you can do it! I like the sound of your 5K plan...if I can put in a "cold weather run plug," consider running in my school's 5K race, the Canisius Chilly Challenge on 2/28 at noon. It is a challenging 5K course, and you and I andone Fat Guy Running can actually all meet at once for a race! Just an idea... aside from that, consider the Buffalo Marathon over the Memorial Day weekend. I'm doing the half, which is not all that scenic, but the second part of the course is...again, just an idea. Good luck!

  3. Good to see you're still at it! I'm not a fan of this weather either (although it's mostly just been cold without snow), but I can NOT put in the miles on the t'mill.

  4. Yay!! Patrick is back! I thought of you when I read how cold it was in Orlando for your marathon. When you travel that far for a race, it should at least be nice out! You did great, though, no matter what the weather threw at you!

    I'm glad to read that the weight training is working well for you. I need to dedicate myself more to that.

    I can't think of any races in April... but there's always San Diego in early June. I can almost promise amazing weather for you! Just throwing it out there. :)

  5. Hi Patrick! Glad all is well! I hear you about the weather! We've had more snow this winter here in Greensboro, NC that the last 10 years put together! I too am glad to have the dreadmill, but I'm so so so looking forward to more outside runs!
